GK GMT300B - distorting

So I scored this amp for $65 off of craigslist recently. I don't have a cab here to test it (I'm up at college) but when I tried it over at the guy's place I could not get a solid clean sound out of it. It might have been the active bass I was playing it through (I could not get ahold of a bass at the time), but I was sure that it was a moderately fixable amp and bit the bullet.

So is there anything obvious that I should be looking for? I was just going to send it in for a look-over sometime. Anything obvious that it is? filter caps, etc… how much would this generally set me back, $wise, if I didn't do it myself?
