Question Gk Goldline 8x10?

Sign in to disble this ad
Musicians Friend is currently blowing these out for $400. Im considering snatching one up. The gaudy gold cones make me cringe, but i suppose i could put some grill cloth over the metal grill to remedy that.

But anyway, how are they? Of course, none of my local guitar shops have any in stock to try out...

Based on the sleep album you have as your picture, I don't think aluminum cones are what you're looking for. If you look on craigslist you can score an ampeg 8X10 or similar older cabinet for that price.

Not worth it

It is a good price, I bought one for like 599 about a year ago. It sounds decent for what it is, but is not worth your time and money. I've heard other owners have the speakers crap out in about a month, and some have lasted a couple years without issues. Its too heavy, and the cones move immensely when pushed, just doesn't seem very efficient. You are better off getting a USA made used ampeg 8X10 or considering a Mesa or Bergantino 6X10 or 8X10. Any of these choices will sound better, weigh less, last longer, and be IME, much louder. I personally sold mine and went to a used mesa powerhouse 1000, with 4 10's, a 15, and a tweeter in one box. Tone and volume wise it has swamped every other cab I have tried. Don't waste your time with that cab.

well, i play all kinds of stuff. i've been on the lookout for a cheap 8x10 recently to compliment my 2x15. the 2x15 handles the doom stuff nicely, but i also like to play NWOBHM-type metal and old school punk. i'm also going to start playing in an 80s rock cover band this summer, and i feel like these styles would lend themselves more to the bright, punchy tone i would get from an 8x10.

but as i figured it seems "too good to be true". ive read a lot of mixed reviews and it seems like a crapshoot. i'll pass and wait for a cheap used Ampeg to come along.

I have the 4x10, currently looking to replace it. Its an OK cabinet but I find I am pushing it to its limits all the time even with my amp at 12oclock gain/master.

Think I am moving to a markbass or bergantino, good luck.
