GK Heads: Does the MB2 sound like a 700RB?

Sign in to disble this ad
I replied to a post on LMIII or GK500 or MB2....so I thought I would throw this question out there:

Does the MB2 sound like a 700RB?

Maybe getting rid of my Markbass LMIII to go back to GK, but like the small portability. I miss the sound of a 700RB, but want to keep my rig small and light. Maybe GK MB2 or 500 will do the trick....?

Heard a lot of people say that the MB series has the GK tone and in a small package. Hoping to get one to replace the 800RB I have.

Want to hear more owner thoughts, so sub'n...

Hmmm, I think the MB500 sounds more like the 800RB than the 700/1001 based on just a few days playing with it.

can't really compare but as I only own an MB-500 I can testify it is a great little amp. Very happy with mine.

I couldn't tell the difference in tone between the MB-500 and my 1001RB-II when I had them both last year. Power and weight is a whole different thing, but the GK tone is present in spades.

Yes, they do sound a lot alike, IME/IMHO. I did Quick Looks of both the MB-500 and the Fusion 550 in issue #2, and compared them both to the 700RB-II. The MB-500 definitely sounded more like the 700RB-II than did the Fusion 550. All three are great heads, though.

IMO, the MB2-500 sounds more like the 700 if you have that '5 string button' (or whatever it is called) pushed in. The low end is much deeper to my ear than the 'flat' voicing of the 700. Also, the upper treble seems much more goosed on the MB2500 to me. Obviously, same tone family though (that aggressive upper mid GK grind), so +1.
