GK MB 115 II hissing horn?

So I have been thru allot lately with combo amps. I picked up a MB115 last night when the TC BG250 I jsut bought had issues and I returned it. I thought the GK was too hi-fi in the store when I played it (older model) so I thought why not and bought it to try with my P bass and flats at practice. I was amazed when I dialed in a fat, warm, clear tone in seconds..happy!

The drummers basement is crappy and the wiring is suspect but the horn had to be turned off. I also got a pop (static) anytime I touched the strings or bridge and the horn sounded like a box of bees... but the tone was great.

I got home late and tried it in my basement music room (better wiring) and it was much better. There was no popping like before and it was allot more quiet but there still is a ground issue when I have the horn on and take my hands off the string. It is not horrible but my Markbass and Fender combo are dead quiet with my basses in the same room.
The horn is hissssss? Any one have this problem? I should tell you I play with the horn off 90% of the time but after what I have been thru with combo's lately I want to hear what others who own this amp say .Should I have GC order me another..confused.

I have a nearly 3-year-old MB115. Haven't had a horn hiss issue. But, I also don't use it 90%, as well.

I have two GK MB115s (one of the first ones without the fan/vent and one with "not MB115-IIs") and I've had no problems with either what so ever. I suspect you have a faulty AC outlet. I highly recommend investing in an AC outlet checker and don’t use that AC outlet until it’s be checked.

Again, I run my Markbass rig, Fender practice combo ,guitar amp and PA thru that same circuit...no problems with any of that gear...dead quiet.
At practice I used the old bass players 80's Peavy rig and my Bugera..both were fine .The MB115...noisy at practice not so much at my place but more than anything else I own or use plus with horn its kind of bad. This is why I'm concerned.

Horns don't hiss. They simply reproduce what the amp is sending to it. If you hear a hiss it's the amp and not the horn.

Your other combos most likely do not have a HF horn (tweeter) to reproduce the hiss from their amp sections.

Well I had more time to test it tonight and I feel like a dummy in a way since it was my bass causing the noise/grounding issues. This bass thru my Markbass rig or Fender combo is quiet and maybe has a very slight buzz but nothing loud at all.
For some reason it angers the GK and it gets really loud, another bass tested the same and I know it had minor grounding issues. I then tried my 08 American standard P bass and the amp was dead quiet...tweeter also.

So I guess I spoke before I tested it right. But am happy that I know the amp is ok...whew....
