read the posts on the GK MB200 amps. This is in the combo. MB200 is a great head and more powerful than stated.

Whoever told you there was no such thing as a stupid question was only trying to make you feel better.

More sensible answers might be forthcoming if you had some more specific queries.

Decent volume level for a 1x12 combo? How does the gain only/no master setup work?

it would be nicer to have a master....but it really is no problem.

I like this amp very much,,,Simple to operate, with minimal controls. Big sound.

I would say the volume falls into the adequate category. No way is it going to take your head off, but you will be able to play along in a band setting as long as its within reason.

What type of music do you play? What is your purpose for the combo- practice, playing live, recording, all of the above? I think if you kept your goals realistic it might work for all of them. You have the DI out for live, decent output for sane volume bands, and its light as necessary for practice.

It's SMALL. When I took it out of the box it was much smaller than I thought it was going to be. It is vented and if you glance at it, you would swear it was a small sealed cube for its size.

Single volume is fine depending on your goals. Think about it like this: Take your volume pot on your bass and roll it to a 1/4 up. Pretend you are playing through any other amp with a gain/master and set the amp to the tone you like. Now, dont touch the amp. Volume up on the bass for more output volume down- the amp is just going to get louder and softer. Maybe thats a bad analogy. If you are trying to see if you are going to get the "GK Growl" well of course you aren't going to alter any preamp signal independently. If you have some pedals laying around perhaps you can just compensate.

For what it is: Cheap, small and light I think its impressive.

I guess tell me your goals for the amp and I can give you better input.

The speaker is a 4ohm driver so it should be utilizing the full 200watt head. I do not have experience with the stand alone MB200 so I cannot compare, but I feel something gives up in the combo, I haven't decided if its the amp or the driver, but I am guessing its the driver.

Probably would be using it for heavier rock into metal type applications. Just home use and small practice situations

For home/practice I really don't think you can do too much better in the value department.

Aux in/Headphones for silent playing
A pretty nice sound for a full range speaker
Enough power to play with other musicians
small and light enough to literally set on your passenger seat
DI out if you find yourself standing in front of a room of people waiting to hear you jam

If these are your goals, then I would not think twice about the lack of gain/master. Does a spoiler make a difference on a sports car going 200mph... yep. If you ripped off that spoiler and drove the same car at 80mph could you tell your down force is different? I am willing to bet not, and I am willing to bet you wont miss out on the little preamp gain.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are really looking to create a unique tone, you can always grab a cool tube preamp and use the same preamp to drive a nice power amp when the time is right. Don't overspend to achieve results that are not part of you goal. Meh, who the hell am I though.

Fantastic review. I have the MB210 and I intend to get the MB112 as my upright/jazz gig amp.
