GK mb115 a good deal?

Sign in to disble this ad
I found a used GK mb115 combo for $175 (supposedly in like new condition). Is that too good of a deal for me to pass up or should I stick with what I got?

I'm currently using a fender BXR sixty...and a Fender American p-bass.

Let me know what you guys think...I'll be looking at it today or tomorrow.

Thanks!

Almost sounds too good to be true. If it's real, and healthy, buy it. I've got one. You can't go wrong at that price.

Assuming the MB115 is in good condition, it sounds like a very good deal and a significant upgrade to your current amp.

Seller says it's less than 1 yr. old and only used a few times. But who doesn't say that? lol..

Does anybody know how well this amp will sound with a P-bass?

The GK MB115 is a good combo amp and it sounds fantastic with a P bass. But $175 is really cheap - so cheap it raises a red flag. If the amp is in good condition it’s an excellent price (a steal) but my gut feeling is someone is unloading the amp for really cheap because there is something wrong with it.

There were a few problems with the early MB115’s - so when you are checking it out turn all the EQ knobs to 12 o’clock, horn and limiter on, boost and contour off, master volume 3 o’clock, - plug in bass, turn on power, and turn up the channel volume to about 11 o’clock and listen for grill rattle and bad horn sounds. If grill rattles see if tightening fixes it and if you don’t like the sound of the horn turn it off. Good luck, I hope the amp is in good condition. BTW - the newer MB115’s have a small fan and a vent on the back and the older ones don’t - oh, and check the boost too.

I bought an mb 115. It was the worst mistake I ever made. I clicked the switch one day it and it didn't come on. I did not abuse the amp or treat it rough.

I did not purchase the warranty at a large retail chain. So they gave me a number to deal directly with GK. The person I recieved an email response from was very rude.

He pointed me in the direction of a shop for repair. The shop closest to me no longer worked with GK. So I would have had to drive two and a half hours for a repair. (One way)

I had the amp removed at a local shop, and now I use it as a cab. Thats my two cents.

I own two GK MB115s and I haven’t had any problems so I haven’t had to deal with GK customer service but I’ve read here on TB that GKs CS isn’t good.
