GK MB115 a "professional" amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
I play through a Fender Rumble 100 and want to upgrade to a professional amplifier, but not spend more than $700.

Would you consider the GK MB115 to be a so called "professional" amplifier?

The reviews are all good and the price is great. I play Christian praise and worship in small to medium sized venues. 200 watts should be enough don't you think? Especially since it has a direct out.

Even though my bass is a StingRay 5, people snicker that I would play such a nice bass through a Fender Rumble "toy."

Would any other combos be similar to if not better at a comparable price?

What says my bass buddies on Talkbass?

I played the GK MB115 amp when I was at a GC, and I thought it was a really good amp for the money. If you are pleased with the sound, I would say go for it as it is plenty loud enough.

I would not snicker at you if you played this amp with a Stingray.

I don't know about the MB115, but the MB210 sounds great. It's not that much more expensive, and it's louder and also offers the capacity to expand with an extension cab if needed. And it's still lightweight.

And whether either are "professional" primarily depends on the player.

Don't ever let people's view of your gear get to you. I've known of a lot of good guys who sold professional gear for lower quality but more common instruments/amps because their image conscious guitarists or band leaders snickered and demanded that they play what they considered "more professional gear."

If it's enough for what you need it to do, it's professional. That said, last I checked the MB212 is $699 from RMC audio. If you never plan on messing around with an extension cab, that would be the one to use. (My "positive spin" of the day.)

Yes, I would consider the GK MB115 to be a professional amp. If I saw you, or someone else with one I would think; "this guy has done his research".

Now, not to derail, but, when I see a craigslist add which reads; "must have pro gear", I think; "those guys wouldn't know pro gear if it bit 'em in the tail".
