GK MB115 tone help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I own a GK MB115 1x15 combo amp. I was wondering if you would like to help me with my tone. I'm looking for a setting on my amp that would sound like it's coming from the natural tone of my bass. The controls on my amp are from left to right: gain knob, contour button, treble knob, hi-mid knob, lo-mid knob, bass knob, boost knob, master knob, limiter button, and horn button. What are the settings of my controls that are needed to make my amp sound like it's giving off the natural tone of my bass?

Thanks!

Hey. I play a Squier Affinity Precision Bass with D'Addario Chromes flatwounds through one of these bad boys. To get the best tone, I set all EQ to 12 o'clock (straight up), Contour and Limiter on, Tweeter off, Gain and Master is depending on gig, and Boost I usually use only when I need more power. It's mostly left around 10 o'clock.

Hope this helps. It all depends on what bass you're using: a Jazz Bass may need more EQ work than that (that's what I've found)

All knobs at noon with contour on is about as far from transparent as is possible to get, unless you were to crank the bass knob up a few more notches.

The only way to know for sure what a flat setting is is to scope it.

A couple other options exist for the technically non-savvy;

-record a sample with your bass jacked straight into a board
-fiddle with knobs until your amp sounds just like that.

-Find FDeck's guide to getting flat response out of the Backline 600 - that might be close to instructive, as it's probable that the built in eq curves are similar.

If it were me, based on what I know of that head, I would start with this for flattish:
-limiter on
-contour off
-horn on
-bass 10 o'clock
-lo-mid 10 o'clock
-mid 2 o'clock
-treble 9 o'clock
-boost off, master cranked

That is just a starting point. Tweak until it sounds good!
