GK MB2-500 Revision

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up a used MB2-500 head. I've been reading where the model had some early issues, and there were different revisions. I looked on the back panel, and didn't see anything I recognized as a revision.

How can I tell what revision I have?

check some of the threads here on TB. i think the serial number can tell you the age.

the MB500 (no squared) is the revision of the MB2-500.

i too am thinking of getting a MB500

If the SN has A07 in it, that's the last revision I heard of. And I think that was when they still named it MB2 500. Don't know if they changed SN when they started calling them MB 500.

According to my SN, it appears I have a A00 version. Is that good or bad?

I think that is actually the very first one that came out. If so, alot of ppl had trouble with those. If I were you I would contact GK. I believe they will make the necessary fixes it needs , no chg.

Some people never had problems at all with the original version. Some did "clip" easily and got really hot. I sent mine in for a revision and they got it sorted out. Not a problem with it since. Make sure you watch the clip light. If it is flashing, then use the -10db pad and adjust the volumes. You don't want it flashing. I've been a GK player for a long time and the MB2 has a nice growliness that cuts great. The "G.I.V.E." circuit with the 'boost' gives it that snarl. I love mine. Super great value and beats the hell out of carrying a heavy head to gigs.

Also, G-K should be able to tell you if any upgrade has already been done.

+1 on the MB500... I've only had mine for a few weeks and just one gig, but I love it so far.

Anyone willing to wade through some LENGTHY impressions are welcome to read my thread:

New Gallien-Krueger MB500 owner: first impressions and existential musings

I would have DEVOURED that thread a few weeks ago, when I was trying to decide what to buy.

My serial number has an A00 in the middle of it. I assumed that's where the designation comes from.

Thanks Bob, ( can I call you Bob?), its always great to see you drop in, and your comment is very appreciated.

Jeff, I was just noting the "China" reference as I was reading the serial # off of the shipping label. I guess I shouldnt have worded it the way I did. I wasnt being negative, just typing out loud.

The amp sounds really good. Its so small and,,, well, small. The sound that comes out of it is pretty amazing.
