GK MB200 amp noise

I just bought above amp..this is the second one, the first I sent back to Musician's Friend due to increased amp noise when I plugged my bass in, and now, this new one does it too. My bass is a MusicMan Sterling, active..could this be the problem? I've never encountered this much noise, can't bear playing it but I really want to!

Sounds like it might be your bass. Mine is dead quiet with an active Jbass.

Thanks, I think you're right, I've been doing some more research, am going to have a technician look at it this weekend, the pre amp may be bad..even if I don't get this hiss on my other amp..

Well, hiss might be a different issue altogether, not necessarily having to do with the amp. Tweeters cranked up all the way will be hissy to some extent, especially if you've got the treble dimed. Most tweeter hiss can't be heard in a band context, but solo, can be annoying.

A lot of times when you get a more revealing piece in the signal chain it becomes apparent that some of the other pieces in it aren't as good as they could be. It isn't always the new amp or speaker cabinet that has problems. There are ways to determine this, and they involve common sense and a little more item swapping troubleshooting, more than anything else.

And more often than not, one finds out how crappy their bass shielding is, how bad single coil pickups are when soloed and idling, etc. Or how their EQ style needs to be newly appraised and altered.

Try to run some other basses through it, even if you have to take it to GC or something.
Keep troubleshooting.
Good luck.
