GK MB200 + Ampeg SVT 210AV = no sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
i just bought a GK MB200 micro head 200W @ 4ohms and an Ampeg SVT 210AV cab 200W @ 8 ohms i plugged it in and it doesnt work I saw other people have tried this combination before and said it has worked and the people at the store said it would work with very little power but i didn't know it would be so underpowered that no sound would come out... is it my problem or should i just go and exchange it for a different cab?

Thanks

That's very unusual they wouldn't work out of the box. It does happen sometimes, but usually it's because you plugged a cable in where it shouldn't go or didn't know to turn off a mute switch off or something. Or maybe a cable is broken. Double check all your connections, make sure you've got the controls set properly, check all your switches, etc. If it's still not working, then take your stuff to the store and see what happens. If it's broken, they'll replace it no problem.

It'll work fine. I know what you're getting at, and any of this nonsense you hear about underpowering a cab is a complete myth.

Just make sure to go through and double check everything.

If it still doesn't work, try swapping things around (new bass, new cable, ect.).

Though just make sure you're using a speaker cable to connect the head to the cab. I've see the mistake made, and almost made it myself before. With enough leads laying around you can easily loose track of which is speaker and what not.

The power button LED should come on red, then slowly change to blue. And it should never go back to red while the amp's in operation. Is this the case with yours?
