GK MB200 cab choice?

Sign in to disble this ad
I will definitely be getting a MB200, but as as far as cabs, would a Hartke 210XL suffice. I play a Squier Jaguar P/J with a pick and Hybrid Slinky strings. I would use it for playing at home and with a band soon hopefully. But at gigs I foresee a DI box. I basically play alternative songs.

Is the Hartke a good choice or should I go with something else? I want to keep it about the same price as the Hartke, new.

I play the MB200 through a GK neo 112 series 1. I like it for practice, but idk if i would do any gigging without PA support with it.

+1 I'd match that head up with a GK 1x12" or 2x10" cab and forget the Hartke. But as above you may need sound reinforcement to make that work in a band at bigger venues.

I love my MB200 but you have to play it within its limits. I keep it as a back-up in a binocular case. I would go with the MB500 for gigs. A little more than you need is just enough. Pair MB500 with two 8 ohm 2X10s and your good to go. Use one 2X10 for small gigs. If you wait for a holiday sale you can get the MB500 for a little over $400.

If your intent on getting the MB200 as your main rig...I have used mine with my Carvin BRX2.10 and the Carvin is 4 ohms. Into my 4 ohm 2X10 I have backed up two guitars and drums in a rock setting. In this configuration it did fine but was near its limit.

I played my MB200 thru an SWR 6x10 cabinet and it worked well in my live band situation. I did have PA support from Front of House however.

I think the MB200 would be just fine for an efficient 410. Maybe not crushingly loud, but loud.

If that’s where your budget is right now, that head with a 210 would be fine for practice or lowish-stage volume, and adding another same cab later should make a significant improvement.

Efficient speakers would definitely be an advantage.

Speaking of efficient speakers, I run my MB200 with a BFM Jack 10. It's loud enough for blues gigs without PA support. Unfortunately it's about twice the price of the Hartke but it is way more efficient, 15 lbs lighter and is about the same in size.

I run my MB200 with an Ampeg SVT210AV (8 ohm) or an Eden EX112 (4 ohm). Both work fine.

Later on I will probably get another 210, but right now, I can't. That's why I'm going for an 8 ohm cab now.

No need to get a DI box, there's a DI out in the back of the MB200 bro.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I will definitely always have PA support for larger gigs.
