GK MB200 cab problem

Hi all,

I'm new to talkbass, I'm a guitarist & my husband is the bassist.
He just got a GK MB200 head, and we've tried it through everything we have in the house: Yorkville 1-12 monitors, old EV 1-12 monitors, JBL Eons (1-15), all 8 ohm.
With single speakers, we got a good sound at very low volumes, call GK & talked gain structure (he plays a Fender P bass, so no active pups). Regardless of volume on bass or gain on the MB200, good sound at low volume, but anything resembling a realistic playing volume was rattling & fart-y.
I thought it might have been some string rattle, but he didn't have any problem at all through his SWR combo.
The best result was daisy chaining the 2 old EV monitors so they were 4 ohms, and with the bass volume backed off a bit, it was right at the edge of do-able stage volume in our 3 piece pop/rock trio. (Not terribly loud stage volumes).
From what I've read here on the forum, it sounds like a lot of you go with something like a Gallien-Krueger Neo 112-II.
For a decent stage volume are we looking at 2 monitors or cabs? We were hoping for a kick back scenario.
We're really hoping this unit works for us, but it'll have to be a bit louder.
Thanks!

You are going to need some Bass specific cabs. PA cabs are going to be maxed out REAL fast with bass guitar.

It's worth noting that the MB200 head has a "scooped mids" voicing, even when the contour switch is turned off. PA monitors might have a hard time keeping up with that. I suggest trying a flatter voicing as a starting point, by turning down the highs and lows, and turning up the mids.
