GK MB212 - First Gig

Sign in to disble this ad
Well did a gig last night for the first time with my new GK MB212. All I can say is HOLY SH!T BALLS!

This is one kick ass little combo! Now my regular bass rig is a Carvin B1500 head (heavy) and 2 Avatar B210 NEO cabinets. An awesome sounding rig in its own right.

But this MB212 sounded incredible! And 37lbs!!!! I've never setup and torn down so quick.

As far as the amp, it had absolutely no problem with volume. I had the master at around the three o-clock position as the manual suggested and the gain around twelve o-clock. Plenty loud, and we had some very loud guest guitar players (Albert Castiglia and JP Soars) playing with us. Tone wise, it was punchy as hell! Cut great through the mix with plenty of bottom. I was using my 1988 Sadowsky NYC Standard 4.

Everyone in the band was wow'd by the tone too. For sure this is my new small to medium size club rig. And did I say 37 lbs!!

GK, you hit a home run with this combo amp!

I played through capnsandwich's MB212 at a recent gtg, and I really enjoyed it. Nice combo for sure.

ClassicJazz, does the MB212 combo have the same 'head' as the MB500? If so, I LOVE it with my little Aguilar S410 cabinet, but am wishing these had been available to try a few weeks back (when I had to move fast on a rig to join my friends' band).

37 lbs definitely beats what I loaded out the other night, notwithstanding the amazingly low weight of the MB500 head.

I concur with everything stated in the first post...I just took my MB212 out the other day and everything I could say about it is everything the OP said--loud, light, and sounds good.

I had the same setup experience too--i just plugged it into the wall--done! The other guys don't want help setting up, so i went and got a beer

I was a little unsure about using a combo at a gig, as I never owned a gig-able combo in the past so i had no experience with one, and the lack of extension cab jack was a bit worrisome at first but after sound check, I realized that this thing can hold it's own pretty nicely. Of course then logic knocked me in the head saying it's a 500 watt amp paired with a 212 so it actually is a pretty decent gig-worthy combination anyways lol

all-in-all i was really impressed with this thing too!

Nice...

Cool to hear it's sounding great with a 4 string. Do you think this combo is capable of handling a 5 string?

I think so. We were doing some funk stuff in E and I was really slappin' on the bass, and it handled it with no problems. Even had some solos and again, handled it fine.

I'm using a MB115 in a blues rock band, and it handles everything I need just fine for 200-300 seat clubs. Like the OP I have a B1500 and Avatar cabs (B212 + B410) which I use for outdoor gigs, but I use the combo wherever I can get away with a smaller setup. These new GK combos are fantastic!

I was also wondering how the amp would handle a 5 string as well. My favorite setup (a very long time ago) was my SVT head and 2, 12" speakers. Loved it but of course, this was used with a 4 string bass.
