GK MB212.....for guitar?

Sign in to disble this ad
I really need a guitar amp, but I am set on getting the GK MB212 bass combo. If I plan on using a guitar pedal in between it and my guitar, do you think I could get a good metal tone out of it? Maby some of you owners could give it a go and report back here?

It'll amplify your guitar, but there's simply NO substitute for a guitar amp. Completely different beasts. I have alot of bass gear, since I'm a bassist, but I like to dabble with guitar too. A couple of great guitar combo's I like are the Fender Blue's Jr, and Vox AC-15. Neither is really expensive. As to good metal tone, you're talking about a serious guitar rig, like a Marshall or Mesa all-tube head, and at least a 2x12 *guitar* cab.

You might be able to squeez a preamp pedal (like a sansamp Triac) in there and have it sound good, but that's supposing the GK is transparent enough, which I believe it might be. Then again, I have very little guitar experience and I've never used the GK combo in question, but as far as my understanding takes me I think this could work out. But I would still suggest investing in a guitar amp down the road.

Well the reason why Im asking is because, while I want a new bass amp, the bands that I will play in both want me to play guitar. I primarily play bass, but I guess my skill has transferred over to guitar as most people tell me I play really well. Im currently selling my old bass amp and with the money I can either buy a Peavey halfstack (for guitar) or the GK combo. If I could get the combo and play guitar through it then my problems are solved, however it seems the majority say that the Peavey halfstack would be best.

Just this week I plugged a 15 watt crate guitar amp (headphone jack out into the bass amp input with tweeter OFF) into my Hughes & Kettner 115 bass combo and it sounds very good~

Was thinking about buying the combo and a Peavey guitar amp head. If i used the head with the combo completely bypassing the bass head, do you think I would get a good tone?

If the Peavey is SS, run the effects send into the MB212s Aux in (1/4" to 1/8" adaptor needed). Problem solved?

I used to play guitar through my 1001 rb II a little and it always sounded pretty good to me

the problem with many bass cabs for guitar is that many of the bass speakers have poor freq response for guitar. Guitar needs 4.5k to 5k whereas with a crossover and a horn most bass cabs crossover way below that. Also, you'll need a switchable high freq because the horns and tweeters sound horrible for overdrive.

Maybe so but with my carvin bx500 or genz benz shuttle and a zendrive, I was coming very close to the sound of my Two Rock and I ended up selling the two rock. The difference in tone was very minimal frankly.
