GK MB2500 issue fixed

I learned something new today. I had bought a GK MB2500 from a guy on Craigslist but the power button was stuck in the ON position. At first it did not bother me since I could shut it off at the power strip, but I decided to get it fixed.

I took it into the shop and they eventually called me and let me know that when the previous owner had removed the rubber feet (he had had it rack-mounted), he had put the screws back in. Seeing as now they went into the amp case farther than they had with the rubber feet on, they started pressing on the board with enough pressure that the switch couldn't function. Once they removed the screws the switch worked fine. The tech told me that he had seen this before on a similar model also where the screws hit some of the wrong things and fried the board, although mine was ok.

So, lesson learned, if you take the rubber feet off one of the GK micro amps, don't put the screws back in.

I never did understand the rationale for racking a micro amp anyway. Seems to defeat the whole purpose for going lightweight & compact in the first place, adding unnecessary weight and bulk - for minimal added protection...

Personally I like having all of my stuff prewired in a rack. Shaving 20 pounds off my rack is a wonderful thing.
