GK mb500 Headphone Jack Not Working

Sign in to disble this ad
UPDATE - ISSUE RESOLVED!

2 weeks ago - receive the amp - headphone jack unresponsive
----------------
sent back
----------------
New one arrives today - same problem!
----------------
Tried 2 different headphones that work on another amp but not the GK.
-----------------
what now?
------------------

Anyone know of a similiarly priced/powered amp head with headphone capability?

I think I'm about done with this particular amp. Since even if I get a good one, I'll always expect the headphone jack to fail at some time.

It's too bad since I love everything else about the amp!

Reordering - I might be doing a foolish thing here.

I can't imagine getting 3 units in a row with the same defect.

----------------

No replies here about similiar alternative amp with headphone capability.

I could only find the TC ELECTRONIC BH500 which I've read has misleading power ratings, and probably is not as powerful as the GK mb500. It's also way larger than I'd like.

So, I'm giving the GK one more try.
---------------------------

Anyone else try their headphone jack on their GK units? Any problems?

Haven't tried my MB500 yet but it works on my MB200. Your post reminds me that I should check mine.

Yes, I can't see anything comparable in it's price range. I'd consider the Ampeg PF (no headphone) but since I have a new GK cabinet, I'd like to stick with GK.

I could live without the 'headphone jack' although It's a feature I strongly prefered.

I just think that if there's a defect in one place (in a particular unit), another defect might be more likely to occur somewhere else.

---------------I'm also wondering if there are slight differences in headphone connectors. I tested expensive headhones that are 20 years old and cheap ones that are new. Both worked for another new amp I have from ROLAND. But neither worked for the 2 GK amps I had.

The speakers don't 'shut off' at all and nothing comes through my headphones (when I have the 'headphone' button setting engaged).

Well, verify the headphones are working first (Im sure you have).
The headphone out doesn't stop the speaker out from working. You have to unplug the speaker. I believe you also need to turn up the master volume to get the speaker/line out to put out signal. Press the line/headphones button, and check your mute button.

The ampeg PF500 does have headphone out, and also has a line in. The line in only goes through the headphone out, not the speaker out.

Holy Smokes!

I thought the headphone being plugged in would disengage the speaker!
I don't see this addressed in the manual - Is this common knowledge?

It has worked like that for every other amp I've ever had - but they're all combos!

It works once I disconnect the speakon cable.

I should've spoken with 'TECH SUPPORT' before talking with 'CUSTOMER SERVICE' (with the vendor I used). I feel like a true IDIOT!

THANKS WES! My anguish is GONE!

Starting to wonder about this.....

Do the majority of amp heads need to have their speakers disconnected in order to operate headphones?

--------------------

TC bh500 amp head is very clear in their manual about the speakers automatically disengaging when headphones are plugged in.

Why is it not addressed in the GK manual?

Any other amp heads operate like the GK? or is the TC Electronic the unusual one?

Most amps don't have a headphone output, consequently there is no "normal" or "usual" approach. Each amp is different.

Maybe it's me,....but I don't see the point of having headphones on when the speakers are louder.....

Maybe you use the headphones to cover your ears if the amp is too loud?
