GK MB500 vs MB Fusion comparison?

Sign in to disble this ad
Found a lot of great info on both amps doing a search, but nothing that had a direct comparison?

Has anyone tried both? What's your views?

I'm going by a bad memory but when I asked Brian at G-K about this a while back and he said something along the lines of they will sound the same except you can get the tube grind from the Fusion. I think he said they both use mostly the same components except of course the tube preamp. I was asking him if it would be worth upgrading from my MB2-500 he said only if I need distortion.

This is good info for me, I have plenty of Grind in the Rusty Box, and could put a tube pre in front of ther 500 if needed...

The Fusion costs near double the price in Europe (400euro vs 700euro) so there's that as well...

Interesting!
Where in Europe you can buy a MB500 for 400 euro?

My mistake for translating swedish currency to euro...should be 500 vs 700 euro (4.995sek vs 7.995sek). Thomann is the cheapest i've seen at 499euro.

Sorry for getting your hopes up

What does the boost on the MB500 sound like? Is it a distortion-like sound or more of a growly sound?

At its higher settings, it's kind of gritty/grindy drive, though not full-on distortion. At lower settings, it adds some warmth, then growl, then snarl, as you turn it up. There are some cool tones in there, for sure, though lovers of a really clean tone will never use it, and lovers of a very overdriven or distorted tone will likely use a pedal.

Tom.
