So I have a 1001RBII, and looking at the MB800 I wonder what the differences are - it is smaller and more powerful?
Just the next generation of technology?
Anyone played both and can comment? |

| | | | IMO I think the sound difference would be similar to the MB500 vs. the GK700RBII. Search for that topic.
Obvious differences are the bi-amping ability of the 1001RB vs. the full-range power section of the MB800.
I would expect the 1001RB to be a little more definitive and clear compared to the MB800’s warmer sound (speculation).
Personally I like the GK’s bi-amp ability with GK cabs but if it’s not applicable to you, the MB800 might be the favorable choice.
I’m surprised it’s not out yet because the ads have been out for months. |

I shouldn't have bought the MB800.......but it's my birthday next week In terms of review, however, I am simply expecting it to be a much more powerful version of the MB500, which I dig. I don't think there'll be any surprises in that respect, but I have not read through this thread or the MB800 thread. Is it supposed to sound different?

To each their own - personally, *I* will take G-K over TC Electronics...

From the GK website: The same FET technology used to create the legendary boost (G.I.V.E.) circuit found in all GK amplifiers for over 30 years is used in every stage of the MB800 preamp. Using FET devices to drive the GK four band active EQ, Contour and Gain allows the MB800 to transition seamlessly from a full, warm, clean tone to full on GK growl.
This is different from any other GK amp, according to Bob.

No experience with the classic GK heads, but I like the idea of having 2 tones available for my bar gigs. Currently I use the nearly flat (I know it's anything but) setting on my M9 for 75% of our covers and toggle on the eq to boost mids for a few numbers, but I don't get real "dirt", just more of an in your face tone.
