GK MBE 115 Damping

Sign in to disble this ad
hey all, so I got a GK MBE 115 to pair up with my MB 210 combo. Love the tone. I dampened the 210 combo, and was wondering if there would be a noticeable difference with damping the 115. Would it tighten up my tone a little bit more, or doesn't it really matter for this one?

Damping is a necessity for all cabs, assuming you don't want boomy lows and erratic mids.

Word, thank you good sir. Does the back of the baffle need to have damping material on it as well, or can that be left bare?

Back, sides, top and bottom. Baffle doesn't need it. Couple sticks of bracing wouldn't hurt either. There's a fairly long thread about doing it to the mb210, same applies for the whole series of cabs......or anything else that isn't lined and braced as well.

I just dampened my Schroeder cab and it sounds a lot better in every way. Smoother, richer tone without the gank that was bugging me before!

I can't believe how many companies get away with not doing it, some of them charging a pretty penny for their stuff. When we can do it for $10 in 15 minutes in a retail price diy build imagine how cheap it must be at wholesale bulk purchase prices and assembly line style building. Not an area I'd be cutting costs if I intended to maintain (or charge for) quality.

Not trying to highjack but does anybody know if the neo 112II cabs have damping or are they empty like the others? I just ordered one so I dont have it here yet to look.
