GK MBX Cabinet Configuration

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a GK MBX 2x10 and 4x10. The 210 is 200 W at 8oms, and the 410 is 400 W at 8 ohms. The amp is a GK 700 RB II, rated at 480 watts 4 ohms. Does it make any sense to stack the 210 and 410? What is my resultant output? I feel dumb for asking, but the whole ohm/cabinet discussion drives me nuts.

You can do it but the 4x10" gets half of the power to move 4 drivers. The other half moves 2 drivers so the cabs won't work in the same way. I guess the 4x10" is exactly twice the 2x10" so you shouldn't have problems but to me it's not a perfect match. It's always better to have two identical cabs IMHO.

So I guess I don't gain anything from adding the 210. Sounds like I would be better off just using the 410.

Now having said that...I cannot mix a Fender 410 4 ohm cab with a GK 410 8 ohm cab, correct?

If your amp is a minimum load of 4 ohms, then no

Mixing an 8 ohm cab with a 4 ohm cab gives you a total load of 2.67 ohms. The 4 ohm cab will receive 2/3 the power, and the 8 ohm cab will get 1/3 total output.

You can run the 210 and the 410, but your volume knob is still going to be limited to whatever you can push through the 210. You'll get extra sound from having extra speakers, but you can't push the amp any harder than you would have done with just the 210. If that makes sense. You're still limited by that 210.

Which is to say, it might end up being somewhat louder, but not as loud as if they were matched. And be careful not to blow the 210 in an effort to get that 410 singing.
