GK Neo 112 II replacement speaker

Sign in to disble this ad
I have two GK Neo 112 II speaker cabinets and am thinking about replacing the 12" speaker in one of the cabinets to an Eminence Kappalite 3012HO. The Eminence is rated at 400 watts vs. the GK 300 watts. The reason for doing this is some clubs I play I only need one cabinet due to stage size restrictions.

I'm using a GK MB500 and would like to be able to use one cabinet at the smaller clubs and have the margin of safety by having a cabinet that can handle 400 watts if I need to push the volume depending on how hard the drummers are playing that night. ( I play in 3 different bands)

Opinions or alternatives welcome. Don't want to go larger or heavier in cabinet size.

You'd need to measure the GK speaker's parameters to know for sure, but it's probable that the 3012HO is a large upgrade in excursion, thermal power handling, and sensitivity.

What is doubtful is whether the size of the box and the tuning is appropriate for a 3012HO. I doubt it. Measure the box and post its internal measurements less the volume of the port, and then the size and depth of the port, and I'll take some stabs at guestimating it for you if you want.

Thanks! I'll get the measurements as soon as I can. I was using a Markbass NYC 121 cabinet that could keep up with a loud drummer in a small club. The reason I don't have it anymore was that I didn't like the piezo tweeter's sound and the rear ported cabinet. If you turned the tweeter off the cabinet really sounded dull. There seemed to be a big 'hole' between the speaker and tweeter's frequency responses.
