GK Neo 115 II with GK 700rb II

Hi there,

I have two questions to ask. I have recently purchased a GK 700rb II secondhand and when I used it at first it was working fine. We went to practice I put the head on a cab which is there and then the amp decided to keep cutting out. We had no idea what was wrong, my friends were trying and struggling to make it work, but the sound would randomly keep coming back. We then decided to put the jack into the effects return and it started playing perfectly with a great sound, we then moved it back to the input and it seemed to work fine. Has anybody got a clue why it may have been doing this. The guy I bought it off said that it was brand new and it hadn't been used. When I have time off work I'm going to take it digital village to see what is wrong.

Now the next question is...will the GK Neo 115 be loud enough by itself or not? If not what would you advice to get for the head within a sensible price range (£400 or lower)

Thanks in advance for the advice!

The effects return jack is a problem with alot of new amps. Just spray a cleaner in it or work your cord in and out of it many times.

Not sure about the amp problem. I have 2 Neo 115's and it's plenty loud. I have used 1 cab for a blues band just fine, but 2 of em' is the shizzle....I think if your going to go with a 1 cab solution it would be best to get a 212 or 410. IMO. Good luck!

I don't know why but GK seem to have a problem with contacts in the effect loop oxidising. You can work the jack with a bit of Deoxit to clean it up. Sounds like you got there already. I don't know how long the spray takes to evaporate, I wouldn't be playing it again that day anyway.

Another identical cab stacked on top will let you play to 300 with no PA. Single 15 will struggle if your guitars are way loud or your drummer is an animal. Usually the PA can help out guitar, not so much with bass.

If you're playing the kind of UK bars I was in back when I was on my OE, one 15 will do fine. You'll be getting more gigs by keeping the volume sane.

It is not just G-K that have effects return jack concerns. Any amp with a serial effects loop will suffer the same problem. Any low voltage, low current connection can be affected (vehicle air bag systems are a prime example).

Thanks everyone! This is quite a bit of help and at least it has put my mind at ease with the amp!
