GK Neo 212 - 11 Vs MBE210

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

can someone explain the difference between these two cabinets please. As far as I can tell they are both

• Available in 4 and 8 ohms
• 600 watts
• Speakon and 1/4” input
• Two 12” neodymium speakers

However, whilst the MBE wieghs 34 lbs the Neo 212-II wieghs 50.5 lbs.

Also the MBE costs $399 whilst the Neo costs $549.

It seems to me that they are pretty similar cabinets yet whilst the MBE is lighter it is also cheaper. Is there something I am not understanding.

I'll be interested in the answers. I have the Neo 212-II and frankly would love the lighter cab. Not that 50 is so heavy, but it is a chunky form factor and hard to lift without some back stress (hey...old guy here.)

What I seem to recall is that the cab is horn or tweeterless and a lighter less rugged cab. I dumped my 212 off a stage onto blacktop with merely a scratched up poly corner thingy, so rugged is nice too.

(Oh and I assume you mean 212 not 210.)

The differences between the NEO and MBE is the wood is Birch on the NEO, while the MBE is plywood. The MBE has the same speakers as the NEO's do, but not the same tweeter and crossover. The NEO has a horn with attenuater adjustment while the MBE has a cheap piezo tweeter and an on/off switch. It also can't be BI-amped. Also I hear the MBE cabs don't have proper bracing or lining. So you get what you pay for. I'd for the Neo cab.

Thanks for your answer. I figured that the Neo cab would be the one to go for. I want a lighter cab without a compromise in the sound. It was hard to figure out what made the Neo cab a better cab without being able to AB the two cabs.

GK Neo 212 I vs 212MBE

I have each of these cabs, the I being 60lbs, and the MBE 34lbs. More defined mids/less bottom from the MBE
The tweeter is not adjustable, but still pretty capable (for what it is).
I got the 212MBE in 8 ohms so that I could run a second cab from my MB500....but haven't even come close to running out of headroom with the 8 ohm.
For me, the 212neo stays home mostly, but still is an excellent cab, particularly if the hms works for you. I have used it with a 700RB and it's a great rig, but the light weight deal has really been doing it for me. Particularly since I haven't needed any more headroom or low end (primarily used on 4 string gigs).
I am a fan of the more pronounced mid/upper mids from the 212MBE/MB500 pairing

Too old for all this weight..lol

Thanks for this info...I guess it boils down to "you get what you pay for". as much as I HATE it..(weight wise)...I think I'll shoot for the NEO. 61 pounds for the Ampeg BXT210M..., versus 68lbs. for a NEO 410. Hummmm....Suggestions please?
