GK NEO-410 VS Ampeg SVT 410HLF

Sign in to disble this ad
Which one would you prefer?
Which one would sound better with a GK 700RB II?

Also, I use fuzz and overdrive pedals, and I'm a bit worried about the Ampeg tweeter. Does the Ampeg 410HLF sound good with tweeter off? Can I dial a bit of tweeter when using fuzz?

I suppose the GK tweeter + fuzz problem would be eliminated with the GK speakon cable?

Appreciate any help here guys.

Bumpity bump. I'm leaning towards the ampeg. I can get it cheaper and I love gk + ampeg combo.

Any kind of distortion like fuzz will blow the tweeter on the ampeg. Go with the GK cab and use the biamp feature and you have alleviated this problem, this is why GK developed their biamp system in the first place...

I actually think some of the GK heads sound great with Ampeg cabs.... but the HLF series has a veerrry different 'signature sound' than the GK cabs.

I strongly recommend trying them first. These two cabs are night and day IMHO....

I have owned both cabs and I have the 700 rb2. I liked both cabs for completely different reasons; the HLF has a Massive bottom the could shake the walls anywhere I played it and the tweeter was adequate for giving the right amount of icing to my tone. It was used with an Ampeg B2R head which isn't the best. I traded that rig for the GK Neo 410 and 700RB2. It's the clearest uncolored pair that I have ever owned and it is a lot lighter to transport than the HLF. I believe that the Neo Cab can take what ever you throw at it using the RB2 head. Get the Neo you will have no regrets.

I think you'll love the HLF at the store, and at home. Then you'll slip a disk trying to get it in the truck.

Playing through an HLF was one of the worst gigs ever for me. All that fat meaty low end disappeared on stage, and I could hear the drivers wishing for death when I tried to push any mids through.

On the other hand. I ran my NEO 410 up against my Ampeg 810, and the GK almost kept up in the volume and punch dept. It got LOUD.
