| | | | I've recently purchased 2 x Mbl 2x12 8ohm cabs. Wish I'd have done it years ago. Although the build is not as good as the neo 2x12's they were 1/2 the price from thomann..
At 600w per cab they handle my ashdown little giant 1000 well and kicks out some serious volume.. As two seperate cabs they are also easy and light to move around. also if your venue is small or going through the PA you may get away with just 1 cab.. Very happy with my 12" set up so far.. ;0) |

| | and it will work for you, too | | Join Date: Dec 2009 Location: Michigan, you best own a coat! | | | I too came here to the trusted yet often feisty TalkBass forum, read a lot, and decided the neo412 and the 700RB2 would be the best combination for the sound I wanted to get as I made my way back down to the underworld.
The 412 has enough of everything I like and need. Lows are big enough, smooth enough and controllable. The mids with my 700 give me enough cut through the noisy guitarist world of over effected arpeggio sweeps, and using the bi-amp feature I can dial in the perfect amount of top end to hear the harmonics (overtones to some) that I like.
I think that 2 x 212's would be great, and on paper look to be the same, I'm more of a one and done cab person.
Now, everyone won't be as lucky as tuna and find one for $200, but the used price point is reasonable and if you look around you can snag a new one on the cheap. As a bonus: If your hot wife or girlfriend isn't enough incentive to be in great shape, moving this cab around will be. I see it as a win-win.

The choice is not between weight and tone. The exercise is an economic one: How best to manage finite resources of energy and/or space.
At 4:00am, after a gig, money in hand, I laugh all the way to the bed.
There are no points for making the same job harder. | I dont see moving a 90lb cab as a big deal. Plus the guys in my band are more than willing to help me move gear seeing I help them.

A true workhorse.
I run mine with a 700RB II and it totally crushes.
Super light too. (for a 4x12) |

In this age of bass playing, there is no absolute need to play a large, heavy rig to be heard well. The point that I managed to bury is that while 90 pounds is no feather, the easy ergonomics of this cab make it worth considering despite its size. Weight doesn't always tell the whole story of how convenient a cab is to move. I've had 70 pound cabs that were a hassle for one OR two people to walk somewhere. One thing I'm sure of is that if the GK 412 NEO didn't have the neo speakers, I wouldn't even consider having one, for reasons of weight AND balance. Many factors are at play.
It's cool when people help with equipment, but it's not something you should ever count on or get too used to. I almost never have help moving stuff from the house to the car and back.

I always told myself id pick a Neo 412 out just to compare to the Mesa but I just don't have the space or need for another big cab right now. The Mesas my favorite cab to date no doubt about that, Im just wondering what the GK has to offer VS the MESA 412. |

I sold it though because the little shelf up top was not deep enough for me to comfortably put my Titan on. I saw no real pluses to the GK versus the Mesa, on the other hand, other than the snall shelf area at the top fo the cab, I didn't really notice any downsides either. I ended up selling the GK and buying a mesa 2x15, that I run along with the 4x12. I have been very happy with that combo. |

Davyo | As a salon owner you know there isn't a shortage of beautiful woman, it's probably deciding on which one you want that's holding you back!
I really like having it all in one cab. Some musicians talk about the load out, but I think moving 2 212s actually takes more energy than one 412 because you take two trips. You know from experience you can get help moving one cab if you need it. Although, the cab is easy to move even without side handles.
Either way, the gk 412 sounds wonderful, I owned a berg 610 and a glock 410 last time I played bass, and those are some of the best cabs in those configurations yet I like the gk 412 just as much.
Good luck and either way you go, i think you'll like the new gk stuff.

As far as getting the Neo 412 the used one I had my eye on just got sold,,, missed it by one day,,, to help me get over the loss of that great deal on the used Neo 412 I ordered the just being released GK MB212 series ll combo, should be delivered around the 15th or so.
But I think I'm going to keep looking for another deal on a Neo 412 and get one to use for the BIG gigs with no PA support,,,, based on all the positive feedback I'm really wanting the Neo 412.
Cheers

The lows are not huge & wide, its tight & grindy... just so well balanced as opposed to my GK NEO 115s with are much stronger in the upper mids.

Still can't decide if I should pick this cab up. He's asking $500, that's a steal, right? |

The 412 is still an aggressive grindy cab by nature, just not as much as the 115. Makes a good pairing to still have cut with a Streamliner
