I have two 1X15 Neo mark I cabs (I just got the second one, it's hard to find the older models), I set them up at the rehearsal room today. I set them side by side and tried them out one at a time. They both sounded identical as I expected. Now.... the problem, they both have a soft (the only way I can describe it) "fart-y" sound, not really distortion but like a soft "lip slapping" type sound. It's not very loud and the farther away from the rig the less noticeable it is. I'm sure in a live mix.... Na Da ... but it does have me wondering... does anybody else hear this kind of sound from their cabs... GK, NEO or whatever??
Also I did change the input gain, EQ and other settings on the head (GK 1001RB II)so I don't think it's the head..... and it's not the grills rattling either.

| | Hey, what does this knob do? | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: New Hampshire | | | Could be you're simply overdriving them. That's a lot of watts for a pair of fifteens. You could try another amp and see if you can run the speakers up to the same volume (with roughly the same tone) w/o distortion.
You're running full-range, not biamp, right? And following the manual to the letter WRT cabling out to the cabs? |

And following the manual to the letter WRT cabling out to the cabs? | Bi-Amped, w/ GK speakons, I have never run the amp very loud.... input gain @10 o-clock (at most) and output woofer 9 to 12 o-clock and tweeter 8 o-clock That's my performance settings. Oh yeah, Eq flat, no boost, contour, or brightness. The two cabs are rated @ 300 watts each and I'd be surprised if I hit them with more than 100 watts peak. ACK !!!! We're not a loud band.
Could it be the ports?? maybe some port turbulence? I mean I'm not stressing at all... it just seems weird..... I should mention that I do play 5 String and have the 5 string button ( on the amp) pushed in.

Hooking up other cabs would help focus where the possible issue might be. And this is really out there, but it's happened to me... the bass, batteries okay and all of that... |

If I use the speakon, I have to plug all excess holes (foam earplug), or it will render a "farting-like" sound. |

You will hear it whistle as you play. Try to locate where the noise is coming from. You can use an empty paper towel tube if you need to focus "where" you are listening.

Bass, batteries and all OK... and I use a fairly mid based EQ on the Bass ... the John East MM SR 2 band can create some mighty bass & treble so I have them both rolled back about half way.

Great idea......

I like the paper towel tube to focus the sound idea to check for leaks and other possible "noise making" anomalies. I'll do this too...
