"Better" for what? I've owned and used both brands over the years and for me, Hartke was always better at the slap/funk style stuff I was doing in the '80s. But, for everything else, GK has always been my go-to gear. From pop/country, blues or bluegrass with URB I can get any sound I need from an 800RB and either a 210 or 410 NEO cab.

My makeshift rig (after blowing an SRW full stack)
GK 4x10
Hartke HyDrive 1x15
Mesa M6

I loved my Hartke HA4000 head and it took a ton of abuse over the course of a decade, but just didn't have the power I needed.

EDIT: The thread title changed!! Started as just "GK or Hartke"...and I didn't realize this was in the amp forum. Yes, fail.

To paraphrase Big Duke Wayne in "Rio Bravo," one's good, the other's better, but I wouldn't want to live on the difference.

I'm biased for GK, as I own the 1001RB-II. But Hartke has a lot of good stuff said about them too. Can't go wrong either way I wouldn't think.

Well, since you changed the question AFTER I gave my reply, I'll have to change my answer.
I've never used Hartke Hydrives since they were not around in the '80s so I no longer have a dog in this fight.

Went from a Hartke HyDrive 115c to a GK MB115.

For me, the Hartke just didn't give me the bottom I wanted.

The best way I can describe it.....when I stand in front of my GK at normal playing levels while wearing shorts, I can see the hair on my legs move........couldn't seem to dial that in with the Hartke.

I had an experience with a borrowed Hydrive 4x10 cabinet. I must say I didn't like it at all! The cabinet seemed dull and lifeless, not much bass, not much treble, but not really punchy either. I was only using 300 watts from a Mesa M-2000, but it wasn't like it wasn't loud enough, it was just lifeless.
