GK power enclosures

Sign in to disble this ad
This may seem like a stupid question, but can anyone explain what the new GK power enclosures do?
Do I understand correctly that they're basically cabs for specific combos?

I was originally planning on buying an MB210 because I liked the option to add another 210 cab (which the MB212 didn't have), but because of all the recent negative comments on the MB210 and all the good stuff I've been reading about the 212 (e.g. big volume difference), I'm leaning more towards the latter.
So if I understand correctly that I could hook a 212 power enclosure to a 212 combo, that'll probably be the winning argument to get the MB212.

The new MB410 does look awesome but it's more than I'm willing to spend right now.

Thanks
LP

Alot of combos cant use an extension speaker because the internal speaker is already at the min. impedence for the amplifier. These can be used with them by using the line out of your combo into them. They are also usefull for any amp where your speaker box is at min. impedence or even if its not and you want the extra power. I'm glad someone finally came out with these. I would love to have a powered speaker to use with my ampeg ba112.

Either that, or you can use your favorite preamp, with these...... (for example, let's say you want to use a sansamp RBI, tonehammer, microbass, Bmax-t, markbass studio, marcus miller pre, etc..........)

If you are looking at the cost perspective, figure the cost of the MBP powered speakers will be about 100 bucks cheaper than that of its combo.

If the MB212 is 699, expect the MBP212 to be 599.

I think the MB 410 is only 50 bucks more than the MB212 at 749.

And yes, the idea is you would be able to hook the MBP212 up to the MB212 for a 1,000 watt 412 setup.... costing 1398 retail.

Cool, that's exactly what I needed to know. So the 410 is something to consider... Problem is I'm pretty limited transportation wise, don't think I like the prospect of schlepping it back and forth to practice. Unless I get some sort of dolly... I'd rather get a 212 now and then, if needed, get an MBP212 in the future.

Thanks again, opinions on the MBPs are always welcome!

Now that I finally got an amp, MB112, I was wondering if I could hook up a 212MBP to it, or does it only work with the 212?

Gonna haveto wait and see when they come out. You said you got the 112? I dont know if GK was planning on putting the speaker out on the 112 to connect it to the MPB series.

I have an mb210 and I don't have a single negative thing to say about it. It's strictly a practice-only amp and It slices through the mix like butter but still has just enough low end thump for a practice setting. I plan on getting an extension just so I can push it a bit farther if need be and not get too worried(you can't just crank these for extended periods of time and expect nothing to happen, if you turn this thing up the whole way without an extension you will regret it within a couple practices). I'm sure the 212 combo rocks but that is almost half the speaker area i'm getting as opposed to when I add the 210 extension. Like I said though, it's only for practice. Doubt I would ever gig it, though I play rock/metal. If you are a band with a lower volume level it would get the job done just fine.

No idea when they're going to be released...
Can someone please tell me if I could use a 212MBP in combination with the MB112 combo I recently bought for some extra juice?

MB210 Is The Best Option, Dollar For Dollar

I've had both the MB210 and MB212 for live performing and frankly I prefer the MB210 for 3 reasons:

1. it's got that great option of an extension cabinet, allowing a 15" for instance to be added to the mix.
2. it weighs 32lbs
3. its a $100 cheaper than the MB212

I also think that the sufficiency of the MB210 vs. 212 is based upon the sound system of your band........ i.e. if you are being routed into the mains and those mains include subs, etc., you don't need to overdo it on-stage with what essentially becomes your personal monitor system. Besides, your personal output can be so above what a good mix would be that the band's entire output is out of balance.

I haven't had a gig yet that required anything more than my 210.
