GK Quality Issues?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking into an MB115. It's going to be my only amp for some time. I'll be using it for practice and for jamming/gigging.

It seems people are saying they take theirs in for several repairs and that when they go, they go in a bad way. Can anyone share some thoughts or stories? I know it's just a $400 amp, but I'd rather not piss away $400 when I could get something else.

I'd take a chance on it because it's GK. GK has great customer service and although they, like any other amp company, have had their share of trouble with new models, they go out of their way to make it right quickly. $400 seems like a great price for what you get, and you get that GK sound.

I've been through a lot of amps in my past 48 years of playing electric bass. GK is the best I've come across in all those years. Sure, there have been a couple tube amps that had a certain something extra, but they were heavy, cumbersome and these days, too expensive and too much trouble to maintain. The big Acoustic folded horn was loud but never did sound good and way to heavy to consider these days.

GK gives me the sound and portability I want at a reasonable cost and with very little compromise in sound.

I'd say, give it a shot. But of course, I am biased in GK's favour.

Edit to add-I'm considering getting that exact model myself. It'll be a nice compliment to the GK MB150S I use now and allow me to play larger rooms without adding an extension cabinet to my current rig. And $400 is about the price of a decent 1x12 extension cab.

GK customer service is top notch. And the MB series has a great sound and bang for the buck you will not fine anywhere else.

"Every" amp brand has some bumps in the road no matter what they cost.
In 1984 I bought a G.K. 800 head, it's never given me any problems.
Six months back I went to a G.K. MB2-500 head, no problems.
Our keyboard player is now using my old 800, it's still going strong!
