GK RB700-II: what EQ settings are flat?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone know where on the dial the bass, treble, high mids and low mids need t be for a "flat EQ?" Obviously Contour and Presence need to be down all the way, and I presume the 5-string button needs to not be depressed.

I measured my 700RB II some time ago: direct out -> post EQ

4 string mode: -11dB @20Hz
5 string mode: ~0dB @20Hz, slight increase between 20-100Hz @1-2dB

It puts out a pretty linear signal with the following settings:

Treble: 12
High-Mid: 2
Low-Mid: 3
Bass: 12

4 string mode, Contour and Presence off

Yeah I think GK is a bit mid scooped at 12oclock, which is probably why I like them so much boosting the mids would seem to flatten the signal.

You're right, there is something distinctive going on in GKs with ostensibly flat EQ settings. I'm not sure what it is, but I generally really dig it. You can plug in, flatten everything out, and be sure that it's going to sound great. At least it does if you like that sound.

it's weird, though. I taught my son how to play electric six string. When I bought an amp for him, I remember telling him that it used to be you pretty much had to buy the amp with the sound you liked. Nowadays with all the neat modeling amp technology, you can make any sound you want.

And here I am saying that bass amps are different. Maybe I need to rethink...
