GK shootout

Hi, I'm about to buy a new rig and have been reading amp-threads till my eyes bled. Where I live there's nothing interesting to try so I need your help....

At last I've come down to the fact I want GK, but can't deside what amp I should go for. I know its a personal thing about what sounds good and not, but I know I'm gonna be happy what ever I get and just need you to give me the last push.

Amp shootout: "GK 1001rb-2" or "GK 550" fusion or "GK mb fusion"

cab shootout: "2x gk neo212" or "2x gk neo410" or "gk neo810"

What would you get and why?

Hey;

I have an MBF 500 and love it. I am a huge fan of the micro-amp world. This one is a winner.
I truly love to carry less and less to and from gigs and rehearsals.

2001RB, but I guess I'd settle for the 1001RB. Neo8x10.

They are all great, but for purposes of discussion, if I had to pick right now, I'd get a Fusion 550 and two Neo212-II's. That Fusion 550 has gobs of dynamic power (other manufacturers would call it an 800-watt amp, and have some merit in doing so - it is very conservatively rated), and those Neo212-II's do a lot of things very well.

I'd go for the two Neo212-II's, these cabs get good reviews and are fairly modular because of their weight.

For Me it is the 1001rb II with an 810 cab....I ran 2 410's but got tired of packing around 2 cabs. I find the 810 sounds better and is pretty easy for one person to move around!! But i still do have a 410 so i gt the best of both worlds!!

Have loved the GK sound for years. The 800RB has been in steady production for over 20 years, and for good reason. Great tone, 200w @ 8 ohms, 300w @ 4 ohms. Used one once with a Hartke XL 210 and Hartke XL 115 stack-KILLER!!!

Great input guys! I value your opinions and what I have started to realise is that all these cabs and amps probably would be a great buy.

Has anyone had the opertunity to try both 810 and 2x 212. I would love to know the differences in sound-characteristics between these two cab-configurations. low end, punch, warmth etc.

A would also like to know how the 550 fusion is compared to the 1001RB-2. How are theire characteristics?

I think every GK thread on TB has to have a mention of the 800rb.

If I'm not mistaken I believe GK makes a neo 412 as well. If you're not opposed to the 810 I would really give the 412 some strong consideration.

It's always interesting to poll other people for their choices, and find out what was behind their choice.

But you need to compare these heads yourself, using your bass, and all with the same speaker (preferably your own cab or similar). Otherwise it's a bit like picking a wife based on who won a popularity contest!

I love my 1001/210 combo!
but I believe GK has discontinued them.

Plenty loud for small-medium gigs.
For anything bigger I run either 740w extension out to a Marshall 4x12 or Sunn 8028 (12+18)

+1..at The end of the day i is your choice and it really dont matter what anyone else says..cause what might be great for everyone else might not be the thing for you....i always say let your ears tell you...yes it is good to know what other people have and use and how well it works...but in the end it all comes down to personal preference!!!

I know it doesn't matter what other think beacuse its all up to my ears. The problem is that it doesn't matter what I think either as long as there are no amps and cabs to try.

Does anyone have experience of both 810 and 412/2 x 212? How do you think the 810 would do compared to a 412/2x212 soundwise?
