GK vs Peavey 115

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all. I am getting a new 1x15 today. I have a Peavey 4x10 and a Trace Elliot head. I know it's always good to stick with the same brand for stacks, but I need opinions on what to buy.

In one corner, there is a 1x15 Peavey for $325. In the other corner, there is a 1x15 GK for $200. I don't know the model numbers of these, but they are both stackable and not tilt backs.

I was wondering if anyone thought I should pay the extra for the Peavey or is the GK just as good for less. Thanks in advance.

Without knowing the models, it's hard to day, but G-K's 115MBE is one of their newer entries for $225 At MF. You need to look carefully and compare specs. The MBE seems to be aimed at a budget, lower powered market. Rated at only 200 watts power handling, and 4 ohms, which would prevent it from being used with another cab with most amps.

G-K has other, Pro Line cabs that probably will perform better.

A little more detail on the models would be helpful but I'll throw in my $.02 and hopefully it may help a little. Here goes........

I had Peavey gear for quite some time years ago. It was good, solid, reliable and roadworthy gear. Never an issue.

Only recently got into "lightweight" bass gear by picking up a GK Backline 112 for a practice amp for $150. VERY well worth the price. Sounds great and kicks ass for a small combo. Seems well built and solid.

Ya, I wish I could help with the models. I'm almost positive the GK is a Backline. But, I have yet to see the Peavey. And I know they are both 8 ohm. Also, they are both cabs, not combos. I should have said that in the beginning.

Just looked at the Peavey TVX115E ($329) and it's only rated for 200w also, but MDF construction makes it 79 lbs!!

Me, I'd go for a G-K Neo 115 III for $449. 300 w. power handling, 40 lbs., and 8 ohm.

Or maybe a Carvin 115.
