Hi Michael,

I play jazz fusion, but my current band is Metal. I am looking versatility for both genres. What do you thinK?

Thanks!

GK all the way,it can do it all. I tried a Genz Benz 6.0 shuttle 2/10 today and was not impressed. It's smaller and lighter then the GK but you get so much more amp with the 700RB, very musical.

For your situation, the GK rig is a no-brainer. Very versatile, and will move plenty of air. Only way I'd opt for the GB rig instead is if I was playing more polite, lower-volume lounge/pop/jazz gigs, or maybe backing up a singer/songwriter - that kind of thing.

Hi ergbass - I've used GK for quite a few years now, experimenting with other amps, but always coming back.
My rig choices always depend on the following, maybe even more:
-what is the venue?
-what is the band? (ie metal vs jazz fusion in your case)
-what are the volume/tone/acoustic/projection requirements?
-what is the transport situation?
-what additional gear am I using?

This criteria will usually see me bringing the right rig. For example, I'll take a rack of GK heads, compression, tuner, my pedalboard and cabinets for a coastal tour, but I'll opt for the Trace Elliott tilt-back combo for a jazz/lounge gig on a sunday evening in town.

Ultimately, once you get past the great tone of these amps, definitely take transport into account - as well as the fact that with a separate head/cab, one or the other can be uprgaded/switched/etc...

All the best! JOHN

Hi John, 300 people venue is usual, my current band is metal, but I also run funk / jazz / fusion. I need something portable, maximum 80 lbs. My equipment includes bb preamp, bass wah, bod and mxr.
what do you think?

thank you very much

If you're running a preamp already - have you considered just buying a power amp?

Bottom line would come down to what tone you like better. GK has lot of control over sculpting tone but has some weight/size to it in a rack. I have hundreds of shows on my 1001RBii so no reliability issues for me.
GB 6.0 is plug and play for me and love the sound set pretty flat. The tube pre adds something you can't get from the GK which may or may not be for you. Size/weight is a great bonus. With a single cab it can't compete with the 1001RBii volume wise but I am giving up 100 or so watts plus the GK is voiced brighter for an apparantly louder sound.

Going with 2 cabs or the shuttle 9.0 is an option if you like the tone direction. My 6.0 is a real air-mover with the 600watt 210/212 setup. I think the GB 6.0 210 setup may be a little weak for a typical metal band gig.

the bb is more an overdrive instead of a preamp, I do not know why they call it preamp. I use it just as an overdrive.

bassman thank you very much, it is helpful to me your experiencies with both amps!

so I'm thinking in going with the rb700.
appears to be most suitable in power and versatility than GB.

thanks guys!
