GK700rbII, Mesa PH212, Genz Neox 212

I have a Gk700rbII Head and at this stage i certainly dont need any more volume, and if i ever do, then thats an excuse for a new rig right?

I am considering the following cabs, partly due to reviews, but mostly because these are the only 212 cabs in the whoel City!! (most isolated City in the world). After the first round of cab auditions, this is what i have concluded.

Mesa PH212 - only available in 8 ohm, however this was plenty. Found the sound to be even with solid lows and strong punching mids and highs. Responded well to eq, but I am concerned that I wont be able to get clean and loud out of it.

MB 600F - A very nice sounding cab witha a good vintage vibe, but I thougth it didnt respond to eq adjustments limiting the rig.

GB Neox 212t - The test zone was a 8ft by 8ft box with glass windows - hardley suitable, however what i could gleen is that it pretty well reporduced the bass and amp. Like the Mesa, the lows were tight and solid, while the mids and highs were very present and not fragile. My concern is, that while it had the greatest response to EQ, it INHERINTLY be too hi fi / modern, limiting the ability find the vintage tones.

I am currently playing with an ecelectic old school band so would like to be able dial in the right amount of 'ol school' plus funky, reggae, bluesy tones. My concern is that this will not be possible with the GB cab.

I play finger style on a deluxe jazz, and like to chirp the octaves on accasions, and every now and then drop a little chirppy fill in, but generally just sit on the groove and enjoy the music. I dont pop or slap etc.

...and to throw a spanner in the works, at some stage a UB may be plugged into the rig.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this, particularly the versitility of the Mesa and Genz with the GK700rb.

Get the Mesa. If it sounds anything like my PH412 (which im sure it does) that can will be incredible. I switched from an Ampeg 810e, and this Mesa blows it away in every possible way.

I play in a punk influenced garage rock band. Typically use the 700RB or an SVT 4PRO into an ampeg 6x10. A couple weeks ago we played an out of town gig and I borrowed the opener's rig that used the genz benz 212 neo cab, and I loved the sound. It got plenty thumpy and dirty for my sound with a quarter pound equipped pbass. I'm on TB right now researching smaller cabs to pair with the 700RB as a result of using that rig. I was using a much bigger mesa rig (4x10 + 1x15) at 1 point and was never really stoked on it.

Your spot on - it is incredible but i decided that for my situation i couldnt justify the extra expense.

I played the GB212 for about 2.5 hours this morning and tweeked every knob and dial available to me. My concern about the cab being too modern was solved by dropping it over on its side and some eq - in this this room anyway. This cab has seems to do it all pretty well and therefore I guess provided me with the best value.

Thanks for your insights.

Im coming from the other direction. I have just upsized from the old GK MBEii 150w (the 112 aluminium one). I used to run this into a 115 to fill out the bottom. Not a bad sound, but just struggled with the lack of headroom. I got the GK again for reasons of sound and familiarity, but the 115 just had no punch. I managed (at low vol anyway)to get a pretty close to the GK MBEii although i will be able to do a comparison of the two setups once I collect the GB212.
