I think its been done a million times, as the 800RB was like a poor mans SVT.

I owned a SVT for awhile but once I played a 800RB I never went back. The 800RB is a work horse and I will pick it over a SVT any day. Its cheaper and a lot better in my opinion. I use it more then I do my Eden tube head and Glockenklang Heartrock.

The 800RB paired up with an Ampeg 8x10 is crushing. Go for it you will love it. I paired mine with a 6x10 for awhile and now use a Aggie 4x12 with it.

That's a very lame thing to say as there are fans of GK sound who prefer it over Ampeg and 800RB is a classic head for a reason.

Sounds better? Debatable. Weighs less? Indisputable.

I traded in my problem prone SVT tube head for my GK 800 head, (that was in 1984.)
Ran the GK 800 into one of my square back Ampeg SVT 810 cabinets for over 25+ years!
Still have the head...wish I still had the cab...

I have a first generation 800RB and it is better. It has metal inputs which is a big plus and the new generations power transformer will go bad if you run it too long. Don't get me wrong the new ones are killer too but the old ones kick so much more butt build and sound wise in my opinion.

Once I went to using 12s I could never go back. I also run a 4X12 filled with Carvin PS12s and it sounds awesome. Gives my GS412 a run for its money. I mounted them in a Carvin guitar cab. Shallower then a bass cab and when it hits its all over lol Super punchy and focused. Built my Carvin for $250 and worth every penny.

I used to use the 800RB/810e combination and think it's unbeatable for four string rock playing. Neither component would take me exactly where I wanted when approaching low B, however.

The GK 800RB is a legend for a reason. Not to discourage you from getting the 8X10 but this head has sounded amazing with every cab I have used with it. 1X15, 4X10, 4X12, 6X10, etc. This head is a sleeper.
