Goldline 500 head - troubleshooting

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all,

I currently use the GK goldline series 500 watt head, and the corresponding 410GLX 4x10 cabinet. I love the system, it sounds great with my Epiphone Thunderbird Pro, and I've never had a problem with either the head or cab.

Just yesterday however this really strange buzz started coming from the cabinet. It sounded almost like bass "farts" except this noise occurs even at low levels, and with the bass is removed from my EQ.

I tried the cabinet with a different head, and the cabinate functions properly. I plugged the head from its line-in to a usb interface (into my mac->Logic recording software) and the same buzzing bass "fart" noise appeared in the computers pre-amp.

When I bought the head it was brand new (and back when it cost $500 T_T)

Companies like Musicians friend have discontinued the line all-together. Was this head simply made bad? Should I scrap it and get a new system, or is there a diagnosable problem that can be fixed?

Any theories are appreciated, if you need more info, just let me know.

Thank you for your time!

Well the Goldline isn't exactly GK's top line gear. I've heard of a lot of people liking it, but also some people not liking it. If you like the way it sounds, I'd say get it looked at by a tech, and pay the repair cost.

Sorry I can't help any.

I figured it was kind of a long shot to just diagnose it. My friend did the same with a marshall and he was told he blew his transformer. I have no idea what that means, but im gunna try and get it looked at tomorrow. Thanks for your time!
