Goliath III versions and changes

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I just bought a second Goliath III cab, both of which I've gotten used off CL. The new one has 2 speakon and 2 1/4" connectors on the back, whereas my first one (at least 6 yrs old since I've had it that long) has a single speakon and 2 1/4" connectors.

I also know that the location on the grille and ohm indication also changed. Does anyone happen to have an idea of what exactly were the changes that happened to the GIII over its production run?

Thanks -- Andy

AFAIK there were no changes other than cosmetic. They used the same PAS 10" drivers and HF section. One thing I did notice is, some had badges on the grill indicating impedance ("Four Ohms"), and some, such as my two, had no indication anywhere. I had to match the part # on my retailer's invoice to the SWR catalog to confirm they were 8 Ohm cabs.

+1 If I remember correctly, the badges appeared when they finally offered the GIII in 4ohm version a number of years ago. An 8ohm with a badge should be identical to the original GIII with no badge (which are 8ohms 'by definition'). No other meaningful changes that I am aware of were made until the driver change in the GIV models (which I haven't heard).

The power ratings also increased with each version which indicates there were driver changes in each version.

This is correct when referring to the models G I, G II, and G III, but I think the OP is asking specifically about the G III line, which remained spec consistent for eleven years.

My bad. I didn't realize the GIII had been in production for the last 11 years! Wow!
