Goliath JR replacement speakers

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an original Goliath Jr speaker cab which I really like. So I bought Goliath Jr II as a matching cab for it when one came up for really cheap.

Because of the price, I figured when I bought it that it had at least 1 bad speaker, although the place I bought it from online said their "tech" had looked at it and both speakers are fine, although in house customers had complained of the right speaker resonating at certain frequencies. I figured at the time that even if I had to replace both it would still be a deal, so I bought it.

Well the cab got here and both speakers are bad, one is complete toast (cone does not even move) and 2nd is just regular blown (farts out at higher volume)

So whats a good replacement speaker for this cab. I saw someone here mention they had replaced the originals with Eminence but did not mention a model number. BP102s seem like a good choice.

Also, I was wondering, since I want the 2 to match in volume and tone, what would happen if I put 1 eminence and one original speaker in each cab? The eminence speakers are 200 watts each and the swrs are only 150 each, would one speaker in each cab be louder then the other?

I tried to find swr speaker but have had no luck. I found a local guy who says he might have a couple but since none of the speakers in either cab have any markings on them I can't tell if they are right or not.

I'm open to suggestions

Thanks in advance for your assitance

If the original cab is 4 ohms, make sure your amp will drive 2 ohm loads once you add this one.

Im not to sure but i think that the BP102 is a direct replacement for these cabs, though i could be wrong.
Somebody replaced all speakers in their Goliath cab here on TB but im not sure which model cab it was.
I know BP102 will make you feel like the bass is going right through you.

Cabinet is 4 ohms, I have a stereo amp that is 4 ohms on each side

Also, I was wondering, since I want the 2 cabinets to match in volume and tone, what would happen if I put 1 eminence and one original speaker in each cab? The eminence speakers are 200 watts each (the ones slapper recommends are 250)and the swrs are only 150 each, would one speaker in each cab be louder then the other?

How about getting the speakers reconed?

How about getting the speakers reconed?

I have not used these guys, but as God mysteriously provided, an ad for speaker reconing was right there next to your post! And it looks pretty good (your milage may vary)! Here is the link:

It could be me you're referring to. I have a Goliath II 4x10 loaded with these as well as a Goliath II Jr.2x10.

I posted a thread defending these speakers because many believe the BP 102 is good for only one thing, being a subwoofer. But with the right EQ, you can have this speaker do just about anything you want.

in defense of the not-so-liked BP102 speaker

I wouldn't say that the BP102 is a direct drop-in replacement for the Goliath cabs. They fit the holes, but they are far different from the originals.

I'm going to try a different set of speakers int he 2x10, to use in conjunction with the BP-loaded 4x10, to see what that will give me, being that the 2 speaker would need to be eq-ed differently to achieve the same (or similar) tone.

What I mean is, in my thread, take note how I eq'd the amp to achieve the sound in the videos. If I were to use that eq setting with, say a Deltalite II speaker, it'll probably sound way too trebly and mid-y. The Deltalite's will probably sound perfect if I set the amp flat. If I use the BP102 with the EQ set flat, you'll get a lot of low end with almost no high's, a very perfect reggae tone.

With the BP-loaded 4x10 and a more full-range speaker in the 2x10, I might achieve a tone similar to something like a bi-amp setup, where the 4x10 is used like a sub and the 2x10 like a high/mid range cab...without using 2 amps.....or I might just hate it altogether and put the BP's back into the 2x10.

I just installed 2 bp102 4 ohm speakers in my goliath jr 3
had to rewire them as the originals were 16 ohm but no big deal
and to tell you the truth I couldn't be happier with the results
this little cab has some balls to it now
I really looked intensively for a better replacement and spec wise
there isn't one out there in this price range
I was gonna get the originals reconed but i'm glad i bought these
spl is a little lower but for an older cab that doesn't have a high
resale value this is a no brainer

just for the record my goliath jr 3 had stock eminence 16 ohm cast frame speakers in it

I had just received a pair of the Eminence Neo Deltalite II speakers and installed them into the 2x10. They sound really good with a flat EQ. I have to see how this cab sounds with my BP-loaded 4x10.

I put one bp102 and 1 original swr speaker in each cab. sounds great, has a bit more low/low mids with the bp's and still has the same swr sound

$117 for the pair shipped from electronicsplace.com

^some will be scolding you for this soon....lol

I tried the Deltalite II's in my 2x10, and it sounds great as a stand alone. But togethter with the BP-loaded 4x10, gives off too much midrange 'honk'.

Needless to say that I reinstalled the BP's in the 2x10 and don't know what to do with the Deltalite's yet...keep for something else or sell.

after using this cab for a week now I can say it was worth it to give it a try and as eddie said its not a direct replacement
Using the cab by itself with a good powerful head is awesome
but when you mix it in with other cabs (I have a berg ht112)
you can hear the spl difference side by side.
Not a big issue but noticeable all the same .
I use this cab by itself and it really shines with with my quantum 5
I could never seem to feel the bass good with other cabs with the q5 on the other hand the sadowsky needs to be eq'd a bit more

yes on the flat spots but they still fit with no modification

one ponders why you can't buy a speaker with a closer match spec wise sounds like a conspiracy
