They're in the budget, bulletproof, time-tested and even the 10 has a DI so they could, in a pinch, be gigged given sound reinforcement in the house. |

I asked ubnomnar what he thought about his, here is his answer: Quote:
I play bass for personal enjoyment and relaxation. The PJB is the finest sounding bass amp I have ever owned. Everything about it is top notch. I am super happy with it. I was originally looking for the even smaller "Briefcase" because I only play quietly in my room where tone is all that matters. The headphone circuit is fantastic and quiet. The eq controls are very useful. The amp also has a both D.I. and line outputs so you can plug into a larger system or P.A.
As for the actual "sound" of the amp, I describe is as very high-fi in that I think it clearly reproduces the sound of whatever bass I plug into it. I thought my Jazz bass sounded great through it, but for whatever reason I seem to be gravitating to single pickup basses.
In fact, I just got a "G-Bass" in the mail today and it's time to start swapping strings to find "the sound." The PJB makes it very easy to hear small changes in setup and tone.
I don't expect I'll ever need anything louder than my Flightcase, but I'd still like to try a Briefcase. If the Briefcase sounds just as good I would probably get one just because it's even more compact.
I can only imagine how fantastic a PJB stack must sound in a band situation.
As you can tell... I'm hugely impressed by the Flightcase. With every other amp I've ever owned I usually found it "lacking in something" by the end of the 1st day. I've had this Flightcase for almost a year and I'm still amazed by how great it sounds.
| I also have a friend who has the Phil Jones Briefcase and he said basically the same thing. I plan on getting one in the next year.
EDIT:
Sorry, just saw the price requirements. This won't meet it, but I'll leave it up anyway for others to read.

I just picked one up off of Ebay for the same price and I thought it was a good deal since they're $550 new. Plenty of power for the home and lots of tone shaping options. |

but you could look used.

There's one in the classifieds right now that I'm familiar with ...

| | | | I am currently using an acoustic B100 and it is very capable of providing you with a range of tones from smooth and round all the way to sharp and gnarly.
This amp has plenty of volume for practice seessions as well. All this and more can be yours for less than 250 dollars(249.99 at GC)
