Good light cab for Markbass F1

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a Matkbass F1 that I am very happy with, I am currently using an Aguilar S410 for my church gig and it sounds great, fast and punchy. But now I need a small and cab for practice at home, something really light that can be used in small gigs if needed, my budget is $ 500, which cab you will recommend to match better with the F1, I am really interested in: NY604, Wizzy 10, Epifani UL10. Any other ssuggestion? I play CCM.

I've never been able to come to terms with the vast majority of 110 cabs... pretty much 'practice amp' level volume and low end.

I would recommend just going a touch bigger to a 112, most of which are actually 'small gig' worth.

While not a featherweight, the Epifani PS112 is a great value, and a nice match with the F1. The slightly fatter low mids of the non new PS line work great with the Markbass heads with the fixed low mid controls like the F1.

The Epi110UL is a nice one, and IMO the nicest of the bunch you list in your OP, and is within your price range. Just don't expect to do anything more than low volume rehearsals with it.

Thanks MJung, I was waiting for your comment .... I am ok with a 12' cab, I used to have a DB112. From Epifani do you recommend the PS112 over the new funky line or UL?

I like the DB112 a lot, but it is a heavy one!

I have never played the Epifunky stuff, so have no opinion on those. I actually like the PS112 better than the UL112 at this point.... yes, a bit heavier, but more meat in the mids to my ear.

I'm using a 34 pound Audiokinesis Thunderchild as my 'small gig' cab at this point, and primarily power it with an F500 set pretty much flat (so, basically an F1). It is $700 though, so over your budget, but it is really something!

For a 112 on a budget, hard to beat the PS112 IMO, and it is much easier on the hand and back than the DB112, which feels like a boat anchor when carrying it!

Aguilar has what looks to be a nice neo 112 coming out that is REALLY lightweight, but I believe a bit over your budget. Might be worth looking at though.. not sure when they will be shipping.

If you can find a used Berg AE112, that would be a REALLY good fit with that head. You don't see them come up for sale much, though.

There are also quite a few very positive posts about the newer GK112 Neo, which is relatively lightweight, and within your budget. You might try to PM TBer Vic, who is familiar with the F1 (I think he still has that head) and also has a couple of the GKNeo's. Stay away from the low end GK neo cabs (that go with the combo amps)... pretty awful, but the primary neo line seems pretty good from reviews... haven't played the newest version though.

agreed on DB112 being heavy, thats the reason I am not getting another, I really like the Audiokinesis but is around $250 over my budget, my search for a PS112 on the clasified section begins

I frequently use a Berg AE210 with my F1. It might be a little heavier than you may want at roughly 40lbs, but it is very small for a 2x10 cab. I get really great results with this combination.

EDIT: Sorry. Just realized you said your budget is $500, and I'm not sure if you can get the AE210 for that price.

I've never tried this exact combination, but how about a Wizzy 12? There have been some M-lines available for $400. I'd think the low lows of the F1 would pair well with this cabinet, but again I haven't tried it myself.

I agree about the Epifani UL 110...great cabinet.

I'm in the same boat and have been wondering about the Schroeder 10" and 12 " models.

My current gig rig is an F1 with two DB112s. Not light, but not really that heavy. It sounds awesome!!!

I LOVE that rig, but again, not the most portable, which is what the OP is looking for.

I just got a second RS210, so I'll try em stacked vert at a large TX mansion house party end of this month. Now, I got both of these on Ebay, advertised as new but out of factory packing. Well both got here in their TC-E boxes, with the speakon cords they provide, sealed in plastic and both look brand new. No issues.

Trying them both here at home with F1 and a couple 5 string basses, this rig sounds nice. The second one I got was a few bucks more for ship fee but it came with a new TC-E cover. Then I ordered another cover from TBer Donovan, great price got here fast.

These cabs are abit heavier than the spec'd 38lbs but very easy to move. There's a RS210 on the 'bay now for IIRC, $349 shipped. It shows to be a demo. I'm diggin mine.

I very much like this match-up also. Didn't recommend it due to size and weight.

Oh and,

I've also used a single Genz Benz NeoX112T cab with F1 at a couple house parties/rehearsals. With 5 string Am St P5 or other 5 stringers. The F1 has velcro on bottom so it sticks nicley on top of this cab when I tilt it back on its's kickstand. I got that cab used, like new here from a TBer.

I feel some of your best used deals are here on "the TB".

Good luck and let us know what you end up with. Peace.

Yep,

I can understand that Ken. A single RS210 tho again, heavier than specs is a breeze to schlep around with those two side handles. I just hug it against my chest and walk.

But I can see where a single 112 would work best for OP for sure. I never get PA support so besides small rooms I almost always need two cabs to gig.

+1 I LOVE the design of that cab... about as small as a 210 can be, and that nice coax tweeter. Really nice 210. It is funny, but that is literally my favorite 210, and it cost half as much as many others. And +1, it feels lighter than the spec due to the great handles and 'vertical' alignment.

The "other" bass player at my church uses an F1 and a Berg AE112. He also has a new AE212 but it is too much for our small church.
