Good Rack Case for M9 Carbine

Sign in to disble this ad
I just purchased the Mesa M9 Carbine rackmountable. To all you out there who own the M9, what do you think the best rack case to get for it is? I believe on the website it said that it should be placed in a 4 Unit case even though it only takes up 2 spaces to keep it from overheating. What are your experiences on this? This is my first experience with a rackmountable amp and I wanna make sure I do it right the first time.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The Mesa vintage headcase is good looking, I think.
Provides ok-ish protection, despite being open front/back.
It is heavy though and has no storage.

I have mine in a light, compact SKB two space rack. The latches are on the front/back covers, so they don't rattle at volume...Gator do this backwards, IMO. The rear cover also has enough room for the power cable, two speaker cables, and a short extension cord with a three outlet tail. I like it.

I've never had heat issues. Some of the early ones did, but later models have a more thoroughly vented top/side cover, and a second internal fan. I do use mine at 2 ohms regularly too.

Vic and several others use the SKB with similar results. You may get more answers posting in the M9 megathread.

The Gator three space shallow rack is just perfect. My M9 fits just right inside and you have an extra rack space for ventilation or you could throw in a rack tuner. The M9 fits in the shallow version with only the rear rack handles poking out the back and the covers fit on perfectly. I hate having gear in a rack with too much empty space at the back as it makes it hard to see anything on the back panel on dark stages. I can carry my M9 easily with one hand using this rack as it adds almost no extra weight.

Thanks!

Thank you guys so much for your input. Good to know that the overheating isn't as big of an issue now. I'll probably go with SKB or Gator.
I'm new to the forums (read a lot but didnt make an account until now). Thanks again for the quick feedback!
