Good trade? Mesa Powerhouse 1000

My Warwick $$ corvette plus 300 for a Mesa Powerhouse 1000 cab and M-Pulse 600 head. Seems like a great deal... He doesn't get any use out of the rig.

Have you played the rig? If it is sounding good, I think that is a great deal! Mesa is not cheap by any means.

If you feel good about it, go for it!

There might be a reason for that.

I say that because I have read a number of posts by TB'ers that the Mesa PH1000 cab is not a very desirable cab. You'd think it would be with a big 15 and four tens surrounding it. But nope. Not a good design.

I'm just referencing what I have read on TB. YMMV.

Also, there are some TB'ers who like the M-Pulse 600 amp, but the majority of TB'ers seem to be of the opinion that the 600 (and 900) do not have the desirable tone of the 300 watt Walkabout amp. Again, I am only referencing what I have read on TB.

My recommendation to you is to not jump at the deal, but take your time and do some reading on TB regarding that cab and amp, and then decide for yourself.

The Powerhouse 1000 is a cab that seems alot better than it really is, as mixing the single 15 with 410's makes zero sense, but the MPulse 600 head is just plain awesome.

I just got off the phone with Mesa Boogie Tech Help, the 410 and the 15 is nothing but a 410 and 15. No special enhancements or special crossovers built in. It's basically a bad combination in a box.

Get the MPULSE head only if you like it. Of course for less money.....

Nothing wrong with the combo...as long as YOU like it. I love my M-Pulse 600 way more than the Walkabout that I've tried out on countless occasions. If you like the cab, get it...lots of people using it like it just fine. Most people will tell you a 4x10 is a bad design if the drivers aren't vertically aligned. Maybe, but it gets the job done for me and countless others.

If at all possible...play the combination and determine for yourself. If not, you just accept the risk that it might not sound like what you're after.

Agreed - I'm no fan of the PH1000 or 1200, but love my M-pulse 600... IME, a PH1000 usually sells for $500-$600, an M-p 600 goes for $800-$1k on the used market, FWIW...

I don't know much about cabs, what makes the powerhouse a bad design?

Mixing drivers of different sizes in the same box only makes sense if they are carefully crossed over so each is dedicated to a different freq range. This doesn't mean it's a bad cab, just that its' design was based more on looks than engineering.
Having said that, it may sound great in most rooms. Personally, if I was offered that trade and willing to haul that fridge, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
