This is the first day off I have had in two weeks to get these packed up and sent back to Ampeg since I got my replacement stuff. Hooked them up one more time just to compare with the new setup. No worries there. Compared to the PF cabs these sound anemic, but on their own they worked great especially for what I was doing.
Bittersweet? I bought these because of the way they sounded, weight, small form factor etc. Due to the issues with the head not sounding the same after modding it to fix the crackle issues with the two cabs I couldn't use it. I paid for a certain sound and wanted that sound.
Anyway Ampeg support was decent through this ordeal and took care of a customer in the end.
Goodbye lightweight tone machine.
Hello heavy.
For anyone that cares the PF cabs sound stellar compared to the Micro VR cabs. Still get that good Ampeg sound but also gives you an awesome amount of low end response to go with it. |

The issues with the head are one thing; however, expecting deep low end out of the 210AV cabs is sort of an unrealistic expectation for those. They do what they do well, but, that's not their design, really.
I really need to go try one of those new PF rigs.

Just "weighted," as it were.
That sealed cab vibe is a different thing than the B15 double baffle thing, I think, eh?

I like the tone of this little rig but I have no headroom so I'm thinking very seriously if upgrading to the PF350/PF115. |

Haven't played one, but I bet they sound different enough that one would have a definite preference.

The 210av's are nice and light and sound like mini SVT's, and the PF115 sounds like a B-15 cab with a little more bottom end. Obviously the PF115 is going to have more bottom because it's bigger, but you add a little shot of low end and those 210av's really come to life. So I'll be keeping both, thank you

I had thought about ditching my 410HLF and getting another 210AV to stack vertically, but now the PF stuff is interesting. |

The PF350 puts out 250w into one 210av, slightly higher than the 200w power handling of the 210av, but shouldn't be a big problem or anything. Just watch your volume and back off if it sounds like it's going to have a problem.

I found another TB'er that found matching handles to the top and mounted them on the side and he it helped a great deal.
If that doesn't help they might be for sale again lol.
I can sell these in good standing knowing they work and doesn't have a design defect like the Micro VR that Ampeg acknowledged then quickly recanted on the "official" release about the fix. I would feel dirty selling one of them, Loud corporate obviously doesn't feel that way.

I really wanted to get that tall ministack going, tho...guess I will just have to live with the LMII at the top of it, but I'm going to have to paint out the yellow |

If they would have made the B200R and a matching extension cab readily available back in the day I would probably still play it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
