Got a 2 for 1 amp deal!

I've been wanting to get something different, I'm done with old Got a new head today! I traded my HH Electronics head and a combo + $90 for it. I went to my local music-go-round and just wanted to try a bunch of heads. I tried a GK Backline 600, not my cup of tea, a Markbass Mini Mark 3, good but the next two were better, a Kustom DE200HD, as good as the best but was more expensive...

The head I got was none other than a Ampeg B2R, I know it always gets bashed but I wanted to try it for myself. And I don't know what those people are talking about...

It has plenty of power, when I hooked it up to my Sunn 2x15 once I got home...lets just say I can make the house shack at 2. I can get a low, low, hella low thump. It's great!

Now Im looking into getting a tube preamp. So I have the tube sound and a good SS sound.

Other people's opinions make for fun reading on TB but you're the one who has to play it, so screw 'em!

I was expecting it to be crap like everyone one said, but after the first note, it instantly jump to first place. And then every other head I played after it, it was the second I tried of five, the others just couldn't match up.

If you like the Ampeg tone, it's hard to beat the SVP-CL for a tube pre. I am in love with mine.

The SVP-CL was exactly what I was thinking, that or either a vintage or kit preamp that has the tubes exposed and sitting vertically, I think those just look so cool.

EBS Valve Drive seems to be good in that category, but I think the Ampeg has a bit more character, which may/may not be a good thing.

Also, +1, TB's great for finding out people's views, but nothing beats hearing stuff for yourself.

I used a B2R for a few years with an ampeg 410 and it was great - enjoy

Good score. I think a lot of people (myself included) dismissed these guys without giving them a fair shake.

I like a clean SS preamp nowadays.

I feel there are better SS heads out there, but I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, I will always keep my sunn 2x15 and it only needs 200w at 4 ohms so even the B2R is slight over kill, but even tone wise, the B2R can probably be beat, but it can hold its own. It's the best sounding SS I've owned so far.
