Got my first real bass amp

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all just picked up my first real bass amp in over 20 years. I traded in my Rumble 25 on an older GK 400RB mark I (100.00) its in great shape and I love the sound. Very neutral yet rich...tons of headroom. It was between that or a newer Backline 600 they had that would have cost me 32.00 more and had some scratchy pots in it.
So whats your opinions on the old GK heads? When I was a young buck I had an old Peavey Mark IV bass head that was indestructable and I loved. I also had a 1973 Fender P bass..damn to have that old girl back.

Good choice for a workhorse amp, and a way better choice than the Backline. I still have mine from the 90s, and see no reason to ever let it go - it's a perfect emergency backup, and I would not hesitate to use it nor would I suffer greatly sound wise, IMO.

bought one used last year and I absolutely love it. ZERO problems with mine so far, and I dont know anyone who has had any. Excellent sounding amps for usually an amazing price.

I ran a GK 400 for 10 years. Great amp & tone, no issues.
Sold it to by a head with more power. Should have kept it..
I second Lowbrow's comment on a much better choice than the Backline.
Enjoy!

I've seen a 400RB for $240 used at a music store. I probably would have snagged it if it was a bit less. As it stands I already have 3 other GK heads.

Whats a good cab to run 4x10 or 1x15? I used to have a peavey 1820 (IIRC) it was an 18 and 2 10's weighed a metric ton but it was awsome with the mark iv head. I remember if I cranked it it actually felt like the air in the room was compressing....damn thing could stop your heart.
