Got screwed on replacement speaker

Sign in to disble this ad
Bought a used speaker off of eBay. Listing said the speaker worked perfectly and listed the model number of the speaker. The model number was a match for the speakers in my GK SBX +. The speaker came and not only was it not the model listed in the auction, but it is blown!!!

Am I just gonna have to grab my ankles on this one or is there any chance I can get my money back?

Yes. File a claim with eBay and PayPal, if you paid with them. This is, of course, after you've contacted the seller to resolve the issue directly, and gotten no satisfaction.

Should I even bother trying to contact the seller?

I guess it's conceivable that a genuine mistake was made, if the seller's shipping lots of speakers around. Just make sure you keep all correspondence.

That is the very first thing you should have done - even before posting about it here.

This is so frustrating. I had it in the shop for a month because we only have one place that I know of in all of Oklahoma city that works on bass cabinets. I paid a 110 bucks for a bench fee and reconing. The guy at the repair shop told me it was fixed. I get it home and it still has a speaker buzzing. Now this. I'm so sick of dealing with this. Sorry for the rant. It's just frustrating when you don't have the money for new equipment and you don't have access to any decent repair shops.

You must make an attempt to contact the seller, to allow him to make it right, it's in ebay's rules, also paypal's I believe. They only get involved if the seller & buyer cannot reach an agreement...as it should be.

...and if it's more than 45 days after the auction ended you're SOL anyway, I'm afraid...

I did. I emailed him yesterday, but I haven't heard back from him. Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but my patience is running out.

Why are you losing patience? Things can go wrong with any sale on Ebay. When they do you have to follow the proscribed procedure. Thems the rules. I do hope you get this sorted out.

Why am I losing patience? I don't know. Maybe because someone sold me a bunk speaker that wasnt even the same speaker it was advertised as and won't respond to my emails. Considering the circumstances, I think I am being MORE than reasonable. I have given him 3 days to respond, I haven't left any negative feedback (yet), and I have been very polite in my emails. How much patience am I supposed to have?

If you're under 45 days file a dispute in paypal. The guy undoubtedly knows he sold you a POS & isn't going to do anything until you force him to. Time is not your ally on this. If you have tried to contact him and he does not respond, put a hand on the $$$ you sent him...now.

File a claim and immediately esclate it. I think they will freeze his paypal account and he will be forced to deal with it.

You have recourse as everyone has stated. Stop whining and go file that Paypal complaint. I'm sure you will get satisfaction that way.

There's no excuse for the speaker being a different model than listed.
But...are you certain it's the speaker that's "buzzing" and not something with the cab?

Lots of these ebay related threads seems to have a weird vibe to them...like the whole story hasn't been told....

How long ago did you purchase the speaker?

Why do people on this forum have to be rude like this? I'm not "whining". Don't you think that's a little uncalled for? If you don't have anything constructive to ad to the thread, then why waste your time?

Thursday. What part of the story isn't being told? I ordered the speaker on Monday. Got it thursday. It's not the model that was listed. And it is blown. I emailed the seller and haven't heard back from him. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
