Great Shop Advice Needed

Sign in to disble this ad
I live in a great town. Truly one of the coolest places on the planet. But, the bass gear I can audition locally is limited.

I've been relegated to trial and error on finding the right stuff. That has ceased to be entertaining.

I'm at the point where I want to find the right cabinet and declare victory and go home. I'm willing to drive up to six hours from Madison WI or fly practically anywhere if I can work up the courage to ship my Barker and Thunderfunk.

In a perfect world, it'd be a private setting where I could really get to hear.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Jim

Chicago or the Twin Cities are within driving range. What I need is advice on finding a "sure thing" shop.

I want to put gear behind me and place all my energy into playing.

Can you limit the gear choices to a few brands or do you want to test as many as possible?

I don't know, and that's what has been making this stage so hard.

I'm by no means looking for anything esoteric, just a cabinet that weighs less than 45 pounds, looks good enough to play a gig where folks are wearing suits, is relatively broad and has a clear midrange. I don't need lots of volume, I never need to get any louder than vocals through a typical 112 on a stick PA.

Based on what is written on TB, I want to try a Bergantino AE 210, an Accugroove 112 and maybe an Acme 210. Or maybe a Schroeder 115.

you may not get to try everything, but at bass central you'll get to play a good cross section. of course they will ask you to turn down if they're on the phone

You said you would fly. Check this place out.

I would just call to see what they had in stock before you actually fly down. Also they do after hour appointments. If you click here http://www.atlantabassgallery.com/gu...?last_count=55 you can see the tour pictures of the place.
They seem to carry every brand you wanted to demo - acme, but they are a thunderfunk dealer so you wouldn't have to fly your amp down
