Guild Thunderbass

I recently picked up an old Guild Thunderbass from a local store. It sounds pretty sweet, but the grillcloth looks like a cat went to town on it. I'd like to have it replaced. I've scoured the internet for anything even remotely similar, but can't seem to find anything. Anyone know of any potential leads? I wouldn't even mind having something custom made, as long as it doesn't cost $500 or something ridiculous like that. This is the best picture I could find of one (don't have any of mine).

I have no ideas in terms of anywhere to get a replacement; however, I have a good friend who does professional sewing for home decor jobs (curtains, drapes, couch cushions, etc.). If I wanted to have a custom replacement made, I would talk to her first. Folks who do that sort of thing have the best knowledge of where to get cloth and how to do the job. I'd try asking around your area for someone who does that sort of thing. Typically, they won't charge you to look at a job, especially if they have their own shop and you can bring the item to them. My friend charges $35.00/hr. I can't imagine that it would take more than one hour to do such a job. She might even tell you where to get a good piece of material and you could to the labor your self. If the cloth is mounted on a wooden frame then I'd be temped to build a duplicate with new material and use that. That way, if you ever decide to sell the amp. then you can offer the buyer the "stock" grill. Best of Luck and happy Thanksgiving!

I got to play a concert through a Thunderbass for a show at Ball State University in the early 1970's. I really wish that I'd bought one instead of the Kasino 200 I got. They sounded much better, but I was more practical and purchased a B-15N(C) that I still have. You have a really nice version of what I consider to be one of my favorite tube bass amps.

You might try Antique Electronics, as they have lots of amp coverings. Antique Electronics (www.tubesandmore.com)

Sadly, no. It's not dirt that's the matter. It's torn pretty well to shreds. As I mentioned, the picture I posted on this thread is not a picture of the exact one that I have, but mine is the same thing. Thanks all for your comments. Anyone know of someone in Southern California? Or where I can get material similar to this. It's not exactly a grillcloth material, but it's not exactly Joann Fabrics stock material either. It's almost like couch upholstery.

Have my original Thunderbass bought when I was a kid in1967or '68. Has 2 15" Jensen Spekers. Cab was great, 50 Watt head not so much. Mine is Balck and grey-silver and not brown like the one shown. Maybe Guid has some old grill clothe material you could buy.
