Guitar Amp / Bass Cab Questions

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all. To make a long story short, I am in need of a bass rig come this Saturday and both my bass head and cab were shipped off a couple weeks ago for repairs. At this point my only option is to use a Peavey 5150 head I have collecting dust and picking up a bass cab to play through. I found out a few days ago that my GK Neo 410 that was shipped for repairs got damaged in shipping. I was thinking of picking up an Acoustic B410 as a replacement for the time being since I had been wanting to downgrade a bit and pocket some money.

A few questions I have are:

1) Will I be underpowering this cab to the point of possible damage? The 5150 is 120 watts. The B410 is 400 watts.
2) Am I at risk of damaging the head by doing this?
3) Switching over to the dirty channel is going to be mighty tempting at some point, is this something I need to stay away from?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out.

Stephen

there is no such thing as underpowering the cab.

there is no risk to the head as long as you have it on the correct ohm setting, which with the acoustic cab will be 8.

I would say, go for it on the dirty channel. You may, however, due to the preamp on the head, have some loss of bass in the eq, so boosting the bass would be something to look into via the eq.
